LaToya Watkins, previous winner of the Graduate Fiction Writing Award sponsored by TACWT and an upcoming graduate of the doctoral program...
TACWT will hold its next annual gathering in Lubbock, Texas, from September 21-23, 2023. Conference sessions will take place at the McKenzie-Merket Alumni Center on the Texas Tech University campus. Recommended lodging has been reserved at the Cotton Court Hotel, with alternate lodging at Staybridge Suites.
A pre-registration conference pass costs $65 for general members ($40 membership is extra) and $35 for student members (membership fee is waived), and it will grant admission to all of the panels--on pedagogy trends and developments--as well as the readings of original poems, stories, and essays written by members. Sessions begin on Thursday, and the conference ends on Saturday after noon. A conference pass also grants admission to all coffee and refreshment breaks. On Friday, September 22, the TACWT dinner will be held at Cagle Steaks and BBQ at 179 and 4th Street (8732 4th Street, Lubbock, TX 79416). This dinner is $26. If you want to attend the dinner only, please purchase an "a la carte dinner ticket" on the payment page.
Selected works by presenters will be published in the annual volume of Writing Texas, a journal sponsored by TACWT. To be considered for publication, the works must be previously unpublished and presented at the conference. For more information on the anthology, visit the WT Website.
In order to present at the conference, presenters must pay for their conference pass ($65) and dues ($40 for general members/not required for student members), totaling $105. If you are only attending a session to hear a friend, there is NO CHARGE, but please register (see options below).
To reserve your room at the contracted hotel, call the Cotton Court reservations number at 1-210-220-3054. To secure a discount, mention that you are with the Writers Conference hosted by Texas Tech University.
